Safety Coordinators
Each tenant should choose two persons to supervise emergency procedures in case of a bonafide emergency. These coordinators should be personnel who are normally present during regular business hours, and be able to assist building engineers and security in an investigation within your suite.
The duties and responsibilities are as follows:
- Provide the Management Office with the names of your Safety Coordinators and their home phone numbers to be contacted after hours in case of an emergency (See Tenant Forms).
- Make sure all employees know who the Coordinators are.
- Assign responsibilities to additional staff for the disposition of vital records, securities, cash and records during an emergency.
- The Safety Coordinator is responsible for selecting one Assistant Safety Coordinator per every 3000 square feet of space in your suite, and for assuring that all Coordinators attend no less then one emergency procedure meeting offered by the Security Department each year.
- Coordinate an Emergency Team within firm that includes stair monitors, elevator monitors, and search teams.
- Contact the Office of the Building any time an infirm or handicapped person is occupying the building so that rescue personnel will be aware of them in the event that the building requires evacuation.
- Maintain at least two flashlights in working order, "Post-it" note pad and whistle, supplied by your firm.
- In the event of a real emergency, the Safety Coordinator always instructs everyone to stay calm and proceed in an orderly manner.
- Each Coordinator and their safety team are responsible for educating their fellow employees.
